A Research-Backed Practice
I joined the CS education world after my undergraduate and early research work in computational cognitive neuroscience. I enjoy thinking about how we can use deep neural networks to model the mind and brain, and I bring this perspective as an instructor of record for UCSD's Deep Learning course (CSE 151B). I bring my background in deep learning together with my graduate training in education and pedagogy to innovate in how we teach the AI topics that are becoming increasingly present in research and industry. Along with my studies in computing education, my course design decisions are informed by my teaching philosophy of pragmatism, joy, and equity.
I also have many TA experiences in Introductory Computing (CS1) in both the CSE and Cognitive Science departments at UCSD, some of which were during quarters in which I was involved in a course redesign around GenAI competencies. I enjoy working with students beginning their computing journey, with roles ranging from one-on-one office hours to lab sessions to curriculum development.
Further, I have TAed CSE 599, our TA training course. I organize and lead groups of experienced TAs as they pass along their knowledge to first-time TAs in the class. I have also run a lecture for CSE 599 where I introduced the mock dialogs I developed during my time at Transform Tutoring. I love passing along knowledge I've acquired both from my research and teaching communities. I also enjoy leading the Talking Teaching group for CSE TAs as an informal community of practice for TAs, since many wish to continue having conversations about teaching after they complete CSE 599.
